Police are responding to fatal crash at Tootgarook

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a fatal crash in Tootgarook this morning (12 April).

Investigators have been told a Mazda CX3 with five males on board struck a tree at the intersection of Marshall Road and Field Road about 1.15am.

A 17-year-old passenger from McCrae died at the scene, while a 17-year-old from Capel Sound was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old from McCrae was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The driver, a 21-year-old Rye man, and a fourth passenger, a 17-year-old from Capel Sound, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are yet to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and the investigation remains ongoing.

Road closures remain in place at the scene.
