Police arrest man after Donvale collision

Police have arrested a man following a two-car collision in the Melba tunnel in Donvale last night.

Officers were called to the scene following reports one of the cars had flipped and crashed into a tunnel barrier about 7.50pm.

The area was cordoned off and all inbound traffic diverted as police processed the scene and searched for the driver of one of the cars who ran from the scene.

A 28-year-old Box Hill man was found nearby and taken into custody.

He has been transferred to hospital under police guard for treatment to injuries sustained in the crash.

It's believed he was driving an allegedly stolen silver Mazda sedan when it collided with a white Honda hatchback.

The two occupants of the other car were not injured.
