Police arrest man over Chapel Street assault

Detectives from the Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit have arrested a 20-year-old man following an assault on Chapel Street in the early hours of Sunday 31 October.

Police executed a search warrant at a residential address in Caroline Springs yesterday. No one was home at the time of the warrant however police contacted the 20-year-old man who then presented himself to the Caroline Springs Police Station

It is alleged a physical fight broke out between two men on the road around 2.30am on the corner of Chapel and Malvern Road, with one male pushed to the ground and assaulted.

A 26-year-old Glen Iris man was treated by passers-by at the time before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 20-year-old man from Caroline Springs has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrate Count on 15 November 2021.

Victoria Police will continue to work around the clock to put a stop to violent offending and hold people to account for their actions.

Operation Safenight recommenced as restrictions eased and nightlife returned to address community concerns around anti-social behaviour, public disorder, and licensing related policing.

As part of the ongoing operation, police undertake highly visible patrols of Chapel Street in Prahran as well as Acland Street and Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, detecting and disrupting anti-social and criminal behaviour, public disorder and engaging with venue owners and operators while conducing licensing checks.

Operation Safenight includes frontline police working alongside Highway Patrol officers, the Proactive Policing Unit and Youth Resource Officers.
