Police charge four men after Toorak assault

Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged four men following an alleged serious assault outside a nightclub in Toorak in the early hours of New Year's Day.

A 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman left a licensed premise on Jackson Road and got into their parked car which had several men leaning against it about 3am.

It's alleged that when the 23-year-old man got out of the vehicle and asked the group to move so they could leave, he was assaulted by the four men.

The Footscray man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Endeavour Hills woman sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Detectives have charged four men in relation to the incident.

Two Dandenong men, aged 22 and 19, have both been charged with recklessly cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, affray and assault.

A 20-year-old from Dandenong North and 19-year-old from Dandenong have been charged with recklessly cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, affray, assault and commit indictable offence while on bail.

All four men were remanded and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
