Detectives from Melton Crime Investigation Unit have today charged a man with manslaughter following a fatal assault at a workplace in Ravenhall in August 2024.
Two men - a then 59-year-old from St Albans and a then 63-year-old from Albion were involved in a dispute at a business premises located on Rebecca Drive around 1pm on Wednesday, 21 August, 2024.
Police will allege a physical altercation ensued, before the 63-year-old man struck the 59-year-old with a piece of wood, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on concrete.
The 59-year-old man was conveyed to hospital with critical injuries, where he later died on 27 August.
The 63-year-old man was arrested and interviewed in relation to the assault on 21 August. He was released intent to summons.
It will be further alleged that the 63-year-old man then left the country, before returning last week.
The now 65-year-old man was arrested at a Sunshine address by detectives from Melton CIU at 9.30am this morning.
He has since been charged with manslaughter.
The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
Melton CIU retained primacy of the investigation with assistance provided by the Homicide Squad.
