Police charge man after convent fire in May 2019 - Kensington

A man has been charged following an investigation into a suspicious fire at a convent in Kensington in May last year.

Just before 9.30pm on Monday 13 May 2019, the building on Kensington Road was allegedly broken into and a small fire was set inside.

It was quickly extinguished before NSW Fire and Rescue attended, along with officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command.

No one was injured in the fire.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, at 1.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 28 January 2020), a 31-year-old man was arrested at Maroubra Police Station.

He was charged with break and enter house etc destroy etc property.

The man, from Sussex Inlet, was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Wednesday 29 January 2020).
