Police charge man after fatal crash at Berkeley Vale

A man has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal crash on the state's Central Coast earlier this year.

About 4.40am on Tuesday 15 January 2019, an allegedly stolen Land Rover Discovery was travelling northbound and a Kia Rio was travelling southbound on Wyong Road, Berkeley Vale when they collided head-on near the intersection of Beckingham Road.

The male driver and sole occupant of the Kia Rio, a 45-year-old man, died at the scene.

Investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attended a Silverwater correctional facility and arrested a 27-year-old man today (Tuesday 9 July 2019).

He's been charged with:

· Manslaughter

· Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death more than 45km/hr

· Dangerous driving occasioning death, speed dangerous

· Dangerous driving occasioning death, driving dangerous manner

· Fail to stop & assist after vehicle impact causing death

· Negligent driving occasioning death

· Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period

· Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

· Not keep left of median strip

· Drive in bus lane

Police will allege in court, the stolen Land Rover was travelling at speed and crossed to the wrong side of the road, before the driver left the scene without rendering assistance.

The Killarney Vale man appeared at Wyong Local Court today (Tuesday 9 July 2019) and has been refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 6 August 2019.
