Police Charge Man After Fire In Welshpool

Arson Squad officers have charged a 39-year-old man in relation to a fire at a commercial premises in Welshpool on 22 February 2026.

About 5.45am on Sunday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) notified police of a fire at a vehicle wholesaler located on Colin Jamieson Drive.

It will be alleged the accused using Molotov cocktails, started a fire which destroyed 19 vehicles.

DFES were able to limit the fire to the front of the premises.

The estimated cost of the damage to the vehicles is $180,000 and $500,000 damage to the premises.

The 39-year-old man from Thornlie was charged with 'Criminal Damage by Fire' and is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 17 April 2026.
