Police charge man after firearms discharge

A 35 year old East Devonport man has been charged after a firearm was allegedly discharged in public.

Yesterday at 12.15pm, police attended Canning Drive, East Devonport after receiving calls in relation to a firearm discharge.

Witnesses reported that a man had exited a vehicle and was seen to shoot a round towards the same vehicle shortly thereafter.

Police responded to the incident and as a result of investigations a man was located at an address nearby inside a garden shed. A search of the shed located a sawn off .410 shotgun, along with a small amount of cannabis and methamphetamine.

The 35 year old East Devonport man was arrested and has been charged with a number of firearms offences. He has been detained for court and will appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court later today.

No-one was injured during the incident.
