Police charge man after firearms; drugs seized at Berkeley

A man has been charged after police seized firearms and prohibited drugs from a storage unit on the states south coast.

About 11.45am yesterday (Friday 13 January 2023), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District stopped a man exiting a storage unit on Warehouse Place, Berkeley.

When police searched the man, a sawn off shot gun was allegedly found in a bag. It was seized for further examination.

About 5.45pm, police executed a search warrant at two storage units, with police seizing a sawn off .410 gauge shot gun, a Glock gel blaster and illicit drugs believed to be methylamphetamine and heroin.

A subsequent search of an adjoining storage unit recovered a stolen motor vehicle.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with two counts of not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess unauthorised firearm and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 14 January 2023).

Investigations are ongoing.
