Police charge man after guns and ammunition seized - Murray River

A man has been charged with alleged firearm and bio-security offences after a search warrant in the state's Murray River region this week.

In September 2020, officers attached to Murray River Police District began an investigation into livestock and firearm registration at a property in Henty – 60km south of Wagga Wagga.

Following inquiries, about 8.30am on Wednesday 9 December 2020, a search warrant was executed at a property on Walla Road, Henty, with assistance from the Murray River Police District Rural Crime Prevention Team, Murray River Police District Licensing, Riverina Police District Rural Crime Prevention Team and the RSPCA.

During the search, police located firearms and ammunition in the house and shed on the property, including a Ruger .22 mag revolver cylinder, two .22 calibre silencers, a .38 calibre revolver, an unregistered bolt action shot gun, a prohibited dog taser collar, a firearms barrel, three laser pointers, a knife and ammunition.

A livestock muster and audit were also conducted on the cattle on the property with 11 fail to comply with mandatory measure offences identified.

The man was arrested and issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear in court at a later date for the following offences:

- Unsafe keeping – firearms (x16)

- Possess prohibited item – silencer (x2)

- Possess prohibited weapon

- Possess prohibited item – laser pointers (x3)

- Possess unregistered firearm and unsafe keeping

- Possess prohibited item – dog taser collar

- Possess prohibited pistol (x2)

- Unsafe keeping (x2)

- Unsafe keeping ammunition (x4)
