Police charge man after home invasion - Redfern

A man will appear in court today after being charged over an alleged aggravated break and enter in south Sydney.

About 8.30pm yesterday (Monday 1 June 2020), emergency services were called to a unit on Walker Street, Redfern, following reports of a home invasion and assault.

Police will allege one of the occupants – a 40-year-old woman – answered a knock at the front door as she believed it to be her partner.

The door was allegedly forced open by a man, and the woman was punched a number of times, before being threatened with a knife.

During the alleged assault, a 58-year-old male occupant returned home and was also assaulted while the man demanded money. He fled the scene a short time later and no goods were stolen.

The occupants were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for head, neck and facial injuries, before being taken to St Vincents Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 54-year-old man was arrested at a home on Hollingshed Street, Mascot, about 2.30am and was taken to Mascot Police Station.

The man was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-wound, and refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today (Tuesday 2 June 2020).

It is believed the man and the occupants were known to each other.
