A man will face court today, charged with arson and other offences following a house fire in the state's north yesterday.
About 6.50am yesterday (Monday 22 December 2025), emergency services were called to a home on Sullivan Place, Moree, following reports of a house fire.
Officers attached to New England Police District arrived and found the residence fully engulfed by flames.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire at the residence, which was vacant at the time, however; the home was destroyed. No injuries were reported.
About 9.45am the same day, following extensive inquiries, police located a man – believed to be aged 32 – on Auburn Street, Moree. Officers attempted to speak to the man who allegedly refused to comply, before spitting at the officers. The man was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosives, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 5 today (Tuesday 23 December 2025).
