Police charge man after illegal fireworks incident at Port Melbourne

Police have charged a man after illegal fireworks were detonated in Port Melbourne on New Year's Eve.

It's understood the illegal fireworks were let off in the vicinity of a surf lifesaving club around 11.50pm.

A 15-year-old girl and a woman in her 70's sustained minor injuries from the fireworks, however they did not require treatment at the scene.

A 23-year-old man from Roxburgh Park was arrested at the scene and has been charged with possess explosive substance and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 26 May 2022.
