A man will face court today after a police officer was seriously injured during an arrest in Sydney's south-west overnight.
About 9.10pm yesterday (Friday 12 November 2021), officers from St George Police Area Command were conducting a licencing inspection of a hotel on Penshurst Road, Narwee.
Officers had cause to speak with a 41-year-old man at the hotel where it will be alleged, he supplied a false name. Further inquiries ascertained the man's correct identity, and it was established he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to comply with conditions stipulated by the Drug Court.
When the man was placed under arrest, he resisted and assaulted officers.
During the arrest a male senior constable fell onto a table where the officer suffered facial injuries and a serious laceration above his right eye.
With the assistance of additional police, the man was taken into custody. It will be further alleged that a search of the man located a flick knife and a stolen bank card.
The man was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged by virtue of the outstanding warrant, state false name to police officer, resist officer in execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty cause ABH, custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen.
The man has been bail refused to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today (Saturday 13 November 2021).
The officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released.
