A man allegedly armed with a firearm and who fled the scene of collision involving a stolen car in Pascoe Vale South this morning has been charged by police.
The 29-year-old has been charged by Merri-bek Crime Investigation Unit detectives with fifteen offences including:
- prohibited person possess firearm
- possess cartridge ammunition without licence
- theft of and theft from motor vehicle
- fraudulently use registration label
- careless driving
- possess prohibited weapon without exemption, namely knuckledusters
- negligently deal with proceeds of crime
- commit indictable offence whilst on bail
- contravene a condition of bail
- handle stolen goods
- use false document
- possess methylamphetamine, and
- other traffic offences.
The charges follow reports a Volvo SUV had crashed into a fence on Coonans Road shortly after 9am.
Witnesses then reported seeing the driver flee the vehicle, allegedly armed with a firearm.
Police responded quickly and arrested the man on Parkstone Avenue.
A subsequent search of the area allegedly located a firearm nearby.
It is believed the Volvo was stolen from a North Melbourne address on 16 July.
The Pascoe Vale South man will be held over to appear before Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 22 July, where police will seek his remand.
