Police charge man after passenger assaulted and robbed on train

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly assaulting and robbing a train passenger at Rockdale yesterday.

About 8.40pm (Sunday 14 April 2019), a 23-year-old man caught a citybound train from Mortdale.

A man and woman boarded the train at Hurstville and spoke to the man already on the train.

The couple asked the passenger for money before attempting to grab hold of his wallet.

Following a short struggle, the man punched the passenger in the face causing him to fall over before taking his wallet and getting off at Rockdale Railway Station with the woman.

The passenger travelled to Central and notified police.

Following inquiries, officers from St George Police Area Command arrested a 19-year-old man at a Bexley unit about 2am today (Monday 15 April 2019).

He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery.

The man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Monday 15 April 2019).
