Police charge man over drive-by shootings at Boggabilla

A man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged drive-by shootings in the state's Far North last year.

About 3.30am on Monday 23 November 2020, officers attached to New England Police District responded to reports of shots fired at multiple homes and cars throughout Boggabilla.

Detectives established Strike Force Deleware to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings.

Following inquires, strike force detectives, with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit and Operational Support Group, executed two search warrants at homes within the Toomelah Village, approximately 15kms from Boggabilla, about 7.30am today (Tuesday 5 January 2021).

During the search, officers seized a replica pistol and ammunition, which will undergo further examination.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Boggabilla Police Station, where he was charged with four counts of fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety.

The man was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 6 January 2021).

Investigations continue.
