Police charge man over firearm offences at Tahmoor

A man will face court today charged with firearm offences following a shooting in Sydney's south west yesterday.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 23 August 2023), a 45-year-old man attended a home on Hunter Street, Tahmoor, to speak to the occupant regarding a tenancy dispute.

An argument ensued, where it is alleged, a shot was fired from inside the home before the man was threatened with a firearm.

Police were notified and officers from Camden Police Area Command attended the home, assisted by the Public Order Riot Squad

The occupant, a 39-year-old man, surrendered to police without incident. He was arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station.

A crime scene was established at the home with police seizing two sawn off .22 calibre rifles and an amount of ammunition. It will be alleged that these items were not secured in an approved storage safe.

The man was charged with five offences including:

  • fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property,
  • two counts of possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority,
  • possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and
  • not keep firearm safely – not pistol/prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail to appear at Picton Local Court today (Thursday 24 August 2023), where he was remanded in custody to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 13 September 2023.
