Police charge man over home invasion near Queanbeyan

A man has been charged over an alleged home invasion near Queanbeyan earlier this month.

About 3.30am on Friday 16 October 2020, a 39-year-old man was woken by a noise coming from inside his home on Halloran Drive, Jerrabomberra.

Police have been told he left his bedroom to investigate and was confronted by an unknown man, who allegedly stabbed him, before running from the home.

Emergency services were called, and police from Monaro Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

The occupant was taken to Woden Hospital in a stable condition and has since been released.

Following inquiries, an 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Sassafras Crescent, Queanbeyan, about 2.30pm yesterday (Friday 23 October 2020).

He was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged with three counts of break and enter intend to commit serious indictable offence, four counts of armed with intent commit indictable offence, larceny, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-wound.

The Queanbeyan man was refused bail and appeared in Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 24 October 2020), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday 26 October 2020.
