Detectives have charged a man over the alleged sexual and indecent assault of a teenage girl in Sydney's south west last year.

In November 2018, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 13-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 22-year-old man at Burwood Local Court about 10am yesterday (Thursday 27 June 2019).

The man was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years, and indecent assault person under 16 years of age.

Police will allege in court that the man, who was a family friend, gave the girl alcohol and drugs before sexually and indecently assaulting her at a home in Belfield on Friday 31 August 2018 and Sunday 2 September 2018.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 28 June 2019).
