Police charge man over sexual assault of 13-year-old girl at Tamworth

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Tamworth last year.

In February 2019, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 13-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man, not known to her, in September 2018.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 33-year-old man at Newcastle Police Station last Thursday (8 August 2019).

The man was charged with aggravated sexual assault (victim under age of 16 years) and sexual intercourse with child under 14 years.

Police will allege in court that the man met the girl at a park in Tamworth on Wednesday 5 September 2018, before inviting her to a guest house where he sexually assaulted her.

The man was remanded in custody on unrelated charges and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Thursday 15 August 2019).
