Police charge man over stabbing at Albury

A man will face court today, charged over the alleged stabbing of another man and a woman in the state's south yesterday.

About 8.40pm (Monday 27 February 2023), emergency services responded to reports of an alleged brawl involving up to seven people on Creek Street, Albury.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a man and a woman – both aged 37 – for knife wounds. They were taken to Albury Base Hospital where the woman was placed under observation whilst the man was airlifted to the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, in a serious but stable condition. The injuries are not considered life threatening.

Officers from Murry River Police District established a crime scene at the location.

Following inquiries, two men – aged 46 and 58 – were arrested a short time later in the backyard of a home on Creek Street where a second crime scene was declared.

They were taken to Albury Police Station where the 46-year-old has been charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm – serious indictable offence, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Tuesday 28 February 2023).

The older man is assisting police with inquiries.
