Police charge man over unauthorised protest

A man has been charged over an unauthorised protest at Pagewood this morning.

About 7.30am today (Thursday 24 March 2022), emergency services were called to the railway corridor near Banksia Street following reports a group had gathered in the area, including a man who had attached himself to a pole.

Police have been told when a 32-year-old man suspended himself from the pole, railway authorities were required to stop all freight trains travelling on the line.

Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attended and – with the assistance of Police Rescue – removed the man from the pole and arrested him.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with:

- Refuse/fail to comply with direction

- Encourage the carrying on operation for commission of crime

- Cause obstruction to railway locomotive or rolling stock, and

- Remain on inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

He was refused bail and will appear before Waverley Local Court tomorrow (Friday 25 March 2022).
