A man has faced court charged with a number of DV offences in the Illawarra overnight.
About 8.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 21 October 2025), police were patrolling Towradgi when they sighted a Honda Civic travelling north on the Princes Highway.
Police signalled the driver to stop at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Jennings Road, Heathcote where police will allege the driver pulled over before he fled on foot into bushland near Kennings Street, Heathcote.
The driver – a 27-year-old man – was arrested nearby and taken to Sutherland Police Station.
A search of the vehicle allegedly located methamphetamine and mobile phones which were seized for forensic examination.
A short time later, he was taken to Sutherland Hospital under police guard for an injury to his leg allegedly sustained during his arrest.
About 4.20am today (Wednesday 22 October 2025) he was released from hospital and taken to Sutherland Police Station.
He was charged with knowingly contravene prohibition/etc in AVO (Domestic), aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-use violence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), two counts of intentionally choke etc person without consent and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and appeared in Sutherland Local Court today (Wednesday 22 October 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 17 December 2025.
