Police Charge Man With Firearm Offences At Trangie

A man has been charged over the seizure of a large volume of ammunition and firearm parts in the states Central West.

About 6pm on Wednesday (12 March 2025), officers from the Orana Mid Western Police District attended a home on Dandaloo Road, Trangie, in relation to a concern for welfare.

Whilst at the premises it will be alleged that police spoke with the 57-year-old male owner where firearm related items were located.

A crime scene warrant was obtained and with the assistance of specialist police a search was conducted yesterday (Thursday 13 March 2025) that allegedly located over 50,000 rounds of ammunition, 30kg of gun powder and multiple firearm parts including barrels and trigger assemblies.

It will also be alleged the man was the holder of a suspended firearms licence.

Officers arrested the man at the location where he was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with six offences:

  • Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm (two counts)
  • Acquire firearm part without authority to do so (two counts)
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Store explosive precursors without licence

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on the same day where he was remanded in custody to appear at Narromine Local Court on Thursday 10 April 2025.

Investigations are ongoing.
