Police charge men after horses shot

Kalgoorlie Detectives have charged four men as a result of their investigation into an incident on 24 January 2019, where several horses were shot.

It will be alleged about 10.30am, the men were travelling in a convoy of three vehicles when they saw a herd of five horses near the roadside, on a property. It is further alleged the men stopped the vehicles and using firearms stored in the vehicles, they shot at the horses before driving away.

Two horses died instantly and three others received critical injuries. The horses were ex race horses owned as pets and kept on the private property located on Darlot-Weebo Road in Leinster.

A 22-year-old man from Pinjarra, a 20-year-old man from Bassendean and a 22-year-old man from Waroona have each been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage; and

• Unlawfully Discharge a Firearm from a Road.

They are due to appear before the Leonora Magistrates Court on 16 April 2019.

A 21-year-old man from Waroona has been charged with Permit Possession of a Firearm to a Person without a Licence/Permit. He is due to appear before the Leonora Magistrates Court on 14 May 2019.
