Police Charge Teen After Vehicle Theft At Ipswich

Police have charged a 16-year-old boy following the alleged theft of a vehicle from a shopping centre in Ipswich on 7 August.

It will be alleged that around 10am, the boy approached a woman at a South Station Road shopping centre and stole her white Mazda sedan, fleeing the scene in the vehicle.

The 67-year-old woman sustained minor injuries during the incident.

A short time later, the vehicle was sighted by patrolling officers in the Ipswich area and monitored as it travelled through Ipswich, Logan and into the northern Gold Coast.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device at Paradise Point, with the vehicle coming to a stop on Oxley Drive a short time later. The boy was taken into custody at the scene.

The 16-year-old Chuwar boy has since been charged with 16 offences, including one count each of robbery armed, enter premises and commit indictable offence, enter dwelling with intent by break at night, enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property and fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash and give the drivers required particulars to any other driver. Two counts each of stealing and driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence and three counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicles aircraft or vessels and fraud.

The boy is due to appear at Ipswich Childrens Court today, 8 August.

Investigations are continuing.
