Police charge teens after police stop stolen car - Ermington

Two teenagers have been charged after police stopped a stolen vehicle in Sydney's north-west overnight.

About 2pm (Monday 1 February 2021), officers from Ryde Police Area Command were conducting proactive patrols in a car park at McArdle Street, Ermington, when they observed a BMW X30D enter the carpark with three teenaged boys on board.

Checks revealed the vehicle was stolen from a home at Killara between Wednesday 27 January 2021 and Thursday 28 January 2021.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver and one passenger, both aged 17; the third male fled the scene.

They were taken to Ryde Police Station where the alleged driver was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

The 17-year-old passenger was charged with five counts of drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, three counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner.

They were refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Tuesday 2 February 2021).

Inquiries are continuing.
