Two men have been charged after a man was allegedly assaulted at a railway station and passengers were harassed on a train overnight.
Just before 11.30pm (Tuesday 12 January 2021), a 22-year-old man was at Redfern Railway Station when he was approached by two men.
Police have been told one of the men performed a number of sexual acts and punched him in the face, before the pair boarded a westbound train.
Just after midnight (Wednesday 13 January 2021), officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command were called to Blacktown Railway Station, following reports two men were behaving inappropriately towards a group of passengers on a train travelling from Gordon to Penrith.
Police were told the men were allegedly drinking alcohol, smoking and spitting on the floor of the train, and neither was wearing a protective face mask.
Following inquiries, two men – aged 23 and 29 – were arrested at Blacktown Railway Station and taken to Blacktown Police Station.
The older man was charged with
• Common assault
• Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal)
• Continue intoxicated etc behaviour after move on direction
• Smoke in or on public passenger vehicle, train, public area
• Drink alcohol on bus, ferry, train or in public area
• Behave offensive manner in/on public passenger vehicle etc
• Wilfully interfere with comfort or safety of others, and
• Not wear fitted face covering in public transport/taxi etc.
The younger man was charged with
• Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
• Not wear fitted face covering in public transport/taxi etc
• Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal)
• Smoke in or on public passenger vehicle/train or public area
• Drink alcohol on bus/ferry/train or in public area
• Behave in offensive manner in or on public passenger vehicle/ train or public area
• Wilfully interfere with comfort or safety of others, and
• Continue intoxicated etc behaviour after move on direction.
The two men, both from Ashfield, were refused bail and appeared at Blacktown Local Court today (Wednesday 13 January 2021), where they were granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on the 28 January 2021.
