A woman will appear in court today, one of two people charged after an officer was allegedly stabbed at Wollongong overnight.
About 9.30pm yesterday (Saturday 14 August 2021), officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended a home on Tucker Avenue, Balgownie, after reports of an earlier neighbour dispute.
Police have been told, a 25-year-old man was allegedly threatened and had his vehicle damaged.
Officers attended a nearby home and spoke to the occupants, a 23-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, who were arrested shortly after.
The woman retreated into the home before arming herself with a kitchen knife and lunging at an officer, who attempted to deploy his taser as he moved away.
A second officer also deployed his taser and the woman was detained.
The male senior constable sustained a stab wound to his hand. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment. He has since been released.
The man and woman were taken to Wollongong Police Station.
The woman was treated by paramedics before being transferred to Wollongong Hospital under police guard.
The man was charged with use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence person, destroy or damage property.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 21 September 2021.
Upon her release, the woman was returned to Wollongong Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wound person with intent to resist/prevent arrest, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, assault officer in execution of duty, use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence person, and breach of bail.
She was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Sunday 15 August 2021).
