Police Charge Two After Vehicle Stop At Coffs Harbour

Two men have been charged following a vehicle stop in Coffs Harbour yesterday morning.

About 8.30am yesterday (Monday 19 January 2026), police were patrolling Long Street, Coffs Harbour, when they stopped a vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation.

When the vehicle stopped, the passenger – a man wanted in relation to an ongoing investigation – allegedly attempted to leave the scene.

The 38-year-old man was arrested following a brief foot pursuit.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located a baton, handcuffs, and a knife.

The driver – a 42-year-old man – was arrested, and both were taken to Coffs Harbor Police Station.

A short time later, police executed a search warrant at a home on Prince James Avenue, Coffs Harbour.

During a search of the home, police seized several items including two firearms, ammunition, a vial of liquid believed to be testosterone, and a resealable bag containing a substance believe to be methamphetamine.

The driver was charged with 10 offences,

  • Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm
  • Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm
  • Possess unauthorised pistol
  • Not keep firearm safely-pistol
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Acquire etc firearm - subject to prohibition order
  • Acquire etc prohibited firearm-subject prohibition order
  • Have custody of an offensive implement in a public place, and
  • Custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 yesterday (Monday 19 January 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 21 January 2026).

The passenger was charged with four unrelated property offences,

  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (two counts)
  • Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, and
  • Aggravated enter dwelling with intent - knowing people there.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 yesterday (Monday 19 January 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
