Police charge two men after officer punched - Rocks

Two men will face court today after a police officer was assaulted in Sydney's CBD last night.

About 10.20pm (Saturday 18 December 2020), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were called to Argyle Street, The Rocks, following reports of a fight.

Police have been told a fight broke out after a 26-year-old man refused to leave a licensed venue.

As officers arrived, the man and a second man, aged 20, ran away.

Following a short foot pursuit, a male constable was attempting to arrest the older man on Lower Fort Street, The Rocks, when the younger man allegedly punched him in the back of the head.

Additional police assisted and the pair were arrested.

During a search of the older man, it's alleged he spat on a second constable.

The men were taken to Day Street Police Station where the older man was charged with assault police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hinder or resist officer in the execution of duty, and excluded person fail to leave premises when requires.

The younger man was charged with assault police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

The injured officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he did not require further treatment.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 19 December 2020).
