Police charge two men over attempted armed robbery, Arundel

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged two men in connection to the alleged attempted theft of a motor vehicle at gunpoint at Arundel last week.

Police arrested the pair yesterday morning (June 4) when officers intercepted an alleged stolen Porsche in Southport. This vehicle was stolen during the break-in of a Labrador residence on May 25.

It is alleged around 8.45pm on May 30, 2019 a man was sitting in his vehicle parked in a driveway on Kendor Street when two men approached him. One of the men was allegedly armed with a handgun and made threats while attempting to open the car door.

The man managed to reverse his car and flee before the men gained entry.

A 32-year old man from Beenleigh has been charged with attempted armed robbery, stealing and receiving tainted property. He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.

A 22-year-old man from Carrara has also been charged with attempted armed robbery. He has been remanded in custody to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on June 25.

Further police investigations involving the men yesterday led them to a storage shed at Lawrence Drive at Nerang where it is alleged officers located an assortment of illegal drugs including GBH, amphetamines (ICE), white powder (suspected of being cocaine), cannabis, three firearms, a large quantity of ammunition and a military grade mortar.

Further police investigations are continuing into this discovery.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from the Gold Coast CIB said once again we see links between unlawful drugs and crimes of violence and property offences. The community has had a enough, as have we.

"Our commitment to bring those responsible to justice remains resolute and we will continue to bring all available resources to bear in putting them before the courts. Those involved in the illegal drug trade and committing crime can expect to be caught unless they change their behaviour."
