Police cracking down on crime in our shopping and transport precincts

Police are cracking down on crime across key shopping and transport precincts this week, as part of a three-day blitz in southern Tasmania.

The operation is aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and crime, including shoplifting and drugs.

Acting Inspector Penny Reardon said police will be conducting highly visible foot patrols of the precincts and surrounding areas and keeping a look out for known offenders.

"We've had officers out at Northgate, Eastlands, and the Elizabeth St Mall as well as surrounding areas including bus malls in Hobart, Glenorchy and Rosny."

"The blitz involves a range of resources, including uniform and plain clothes police, detectives and police dogs, and our Operation Saturate team," she said.

"Tasmania is a very safe place to live, but we know there are a small number of people who do the wrong thing in our communities."

"This blitz is about sending a message to those few people, that anti-social and illegal activities will not be tolerated."

The operation began on Tuesday and runs until Thursday.
