Police Investigate Suspicious Fires In Carlton

Police are investigating a series of fires in Carlton last night.

Emergency services were called to reports of cars on fire in a school carpark off Rathdowne Street about 11.20pm on 11 January.

Fire crews located and extinguished the two vehicles, locating an additional fire on the school grounds and a third fire at the entrance to a church of Palmerston Street.

The two vehicles were completely destroyed while the school grounds and unoccupied church sustained minor damage.

There were no injuries.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

At this stage the fires are being treated as suspicious, however investigators do not believe this to be a prejudice-motivated or religious based attack.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
