Detectives from Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following a fire at an educational facility at Bentley Park on Sunday 10 May.
It will be alleged around 5pm yesterday a man broke into the early learning centre in the grounds of the premises on McLaughlin Road.
Police further allege an accelerant was used to light a fire before fleeing the scene.
Responding police and emergency services were able to extinguish the fire however the building sustained extensive damage.
A 19-year-old Mount Sheridan man was arrested by detectives around 7.30pm last night and he has been charged with one count of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and one count of arson.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 11 May.
