Police Lay Assault Charges At Helensvale And Thornlands

Police have charged two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, following an assault at Helensvale on Monday night, 22 June.

It will be alleged that around 9.30pm, the pair entered a licensed venue on Sir John Overall Drive where they assaulted a 20-year-old male staff member and a 73-year-old patron, who received non-life-threatening injuries.

They also allegedly damaged property within the premises before leaving.

It will be further alleged that at 11.30pm, the 16-year-old boy and an unknown offender forced entry to a home on Blue Water Avenue, Thornlands before being confronted by the occupants.

During an altercation, a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old man allegedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital.

A 16-year-old Wellington Point boy has been charged with a total of 16 offences including four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, and one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, serious assault of a person over 60, common assault, enter dwelling with intent and wilful damage.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Children's Court today, 24 June.

An 18-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, serious assault of a person over 60, common assault, wilful damage, public nuisance in licensed premises, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing counterfeit money.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court today, 24 June.

Investigations into the Thornlands incident are ongoing.
