Police lay charges after Altona North stabbing

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men in relation to a stabbing at a sporting venue in Altona North last month.

The incident occurred at a basketball tournament at the Doherty's Road venue, just after 8.30pm on Sunday 28 November.

Police allege a group of men attended the venue and a fight broke out between the men and tournament organisers.

A 22-year-old Werribee man sustained stab wounds to his upper body and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second man aged 22 from Werribee was also treated on scene by paramedics.

Search warrants were executed in North Melbourne and Greenvale today resulting in the arrest of two men.

A 20-year-old North Melbourne man has been charged with affray, common law assault, intentionally causing injury and possess controlled weapon.

A 20-year-old Greenvale man has been charged with affray, common law assault and recklessly causing injury.

Both men have been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 9 May 2022.
