Police lay charges after incident in Kwinana

Rockingham Detectives have charged two 14-year-old girls after an incident in Calista yesterday, 27 February 2022.

About 11.50am, the two girls were at the Kwinana Adventure Park on Walgreen Crescent, when it is alleged one of the girls picked up an 18-month-old child who was sitting on the footpath near the water park.

The girls approached caretakers of the park with the child and were advised to wait under the patio area whilst a search was conducted for the child's parents. The girls did not wait.

It is alleged they left the area with the child, walking to the Kwinana Marketplace shopping centre where they went into a department store and purchased a new outfit for the child. They changed the child into the new clothes.

Due to information received from members of the public, police located the child safe and well with one of the girls on Tunnicliffe Street in Parmelia. A short time later police took the second 14-year-old girl into custody at the Kwinana Marketplace shopping centre.

Both 14-year-old girls, from Alexander Heights and Orelia, have been charged with:-

• Person Forcibly/Fraudulently Takes/Entices Away/Detains a Child under 16.

They are due to appear before the Perth Children's Court today, 28 February 2022.
