Police lay charges after rifle found in car at Lawson

A man has been charged with firearm offences after police seized a rifle and ammunition from a car in the Blue Mountains overnight.

About 8.25pm (Monday 10 February 2020), an officer attached to Blue Mountains Highway Patrol spoke to the driver of a blue sedan that was stopped on the Great Western Highway near Orient Street, Lawson.

Following inquiries, police searched the vehicle and seized a .22 calibre rifle, ammunition, a loaded magazine, a rifle bolt, cash and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Springwood Police Station.

He has been charged with possess unregistered firearm, possess ammunition without holding a licence / permit, not keep firearm safe, acquire firearm without permit, and possess a prohibited drug.

The man, from Harrington Park, was granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on Thursday 5 March 2020.
