Police lay charges - Assault with intent to steal in Darwin City 2 November

Northern Territory Police have charged two men after a vehicle was stolen in Darwin City overnight.

At 8:20pm, police received reports that two men allegedly assaulted a man who was inside his vehicle at a carpark on Cavenagh Street. The victim has exited his vehicle and the two men have allegedly stolen it before colliding with a nearby bike rack and fleeing the scene.

Police attended and arrested the pair a short time later.

Detectives from Serious Crime have charged a 40-year-old with:

  • Assault with intent to steal
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • High range drink driving
  • Drive without due care

A 25-year-old was charged with:

  • Assault with intent to steal
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle

Both were bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 7 December 2022.
