Police lay charges - Cause bushfire in Adelaide River

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for lighting fires.

Around 7:30am yesterday, the man allegedly lit fires in the Adelaide River region.

The man was arrested by police in Pine Creek this morning. He has been charged with one count of cause bushfire.

The man was refused police bail. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Darwin Local Court on Monday 31 August 2020.

Firefighters continue to monitor the fire which is in a region expecting severe fire conditions on Saturday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jak Evans said, "The devastating impacts bushfires have is well known to everyone. Any person caught lighting a bushfire will be charged and face the courts."
