Police have charged a man after he was allegedly detected travelling 100km/h over the speed limit at Moulden on Saturday night.
Around 8.15pm on Saturday officers from Darwin Traffic Operations detected a vehicle travelling along Elrundie Avenue, Moulden, at 182km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The driver was apprehended and underwent roadside alcohol and drug testing, returning positive results for both.
He was conveyed to Palmerston Watch House, where he underwent further breath analysis and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.153.
A subsequent drug analysis also returned positive results for two prohibited drugs.
The man was processed at Palmerston Watch House and was later charged with:
- Drive at a speed dangerous to public
- Drive high range alcohol content
- Driver with prohibited drug in body.
He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday October 20 2026.
Territory Road Policing Officer in Charge Devrim Kanyilmaz said the behaviour of the driver was appalling.
"This irresponsible and dangerous behaviour behind the wheel could have resulted in the loss of lives on our roads.
"Driving at such an excessive speed is reckless and shows a clear lack of consideration for the safety of others and themselves which is put at risk by this type of behaviour.
"I want to thank the Territory Road Policing team for their intervention that quite possibly saved lives."
