Police lay charges over drug offences in Darwin

Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad (DOCS) have arrested a 54-year-old man for alleged drug offences.

DOCS detectives received information that 23.6 kilograms of cannabis had been seized from a South Australian freight company on Monday 24 February 2020. The cannabis was in a box addressed to the 54-year-old man and destined for Darwin.

Following investigations, DOCS detectives arrested the man as he attempted to collect the box on Friday 28 February. Police then executed a search warrant at the man's residence in Howard Springs where they located items including a sawn-off shotgun and a small quantity of cannabis.

The man was charged with:

  • possess schedule 2 dangerous drug - commercial quantity
  • supply schedule 2 dangerous drug - commercial quantity

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday 15 April 2020.
