Police lay charges over road-rage stabbing - Cabramatta

A man is due to appear in court this morning charged over an alleged assault and stabbing after a crash at Cabramatta yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Bartley Street about 5pm (Thursday 20 July 2023), and found a 26-year-old man with stab wounds to his stomach, arm and back.

Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were told the man had been sitting in his broken-down car when it was allegedly struck from behind by a ute.

The two drivers began arguing before the driver of the ute allegedly assaulted the other man, then stabbed him three times.

By-standers intervened and called emergency services.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken under police guard to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later released was and taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with six offences,

• Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

• Negligent driving

• Common assault

• Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order

• Custody of a knife in a public place, and

• Licence expired.

He has also been charged with breach of bail

The man, from Canley Heights, has been refused bail and is due to appear in Fairfield Local Court later today (Friday 21 July 2023).
