Police lay charges - Stolen motor vehicle - Fannie Bay

Northern Territory Police have charged two youths in relation to a stolen vehicle in Fannie Bay yesterday.

Shortly before 4:00am, a taxi was stolen from a residence on Ross Smith Avenue.

The stolen vehicle was reported to police and later seen driving at high speeds through the Greater Darwin area, before stopping at a service station in Palmerston.

The pair were spotted by Police CCTV Operators, who relayed the information back to police in the area however, the pair fled on foot.

Strike Force Trident members commenced investigations and identified the two youths.

Later that evening, the Dog Operations Unit located and arrested them at a unit complex in Parap.

Both youths were taken to Palmerston Watch House.

A 13 year-old male was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Drive vehicle without fastened seatbelt
  • Serious breach of bail

The second 13-year-old male was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Serious breach of bail

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said: "Further charges are likely to be laid upon receipt of the Taxi CCTV footage.

"It's disappointing to see incidents like this continue to occur."
