Police make arrest after suspicious item located at train station

State Security Investigation Group detectives have charged a man in relation to an incident that occurred on 4 April 2019, in Joondalup.

It is alleged about 4.15pm, the man left an item at the Currambine train station prior to boarding a train. The discovery of the item by a member of the public was reported to Transit Officers who contacted Police.

The item was identified by police as an improvised explosive device of low sophistication and a with minimal impact area.

The 45-year-old man of no fixed address was apprehended by police about 5.20pm yesterday (5 April 2019), in Northbridge.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today (6 April 2019), on the charges of:

• Making or Possession of Explosives under Suspicious Circumstances;

• Possess a Prohibited Drug (Meth);

• Possess Drug Paraphernalia; and

• Carried an Article with Intent to Cause Fear that someone will be Injured or Disabled.
