Police make arrest - Assault in Darwin City

Northern Territory Police have arrested a male in relation to an assault on Mitchell Street over the weekend.

Just after 4am, Saturday 16 December, emergency services received a report of a male who had been allegedly cowards punched.

The 48-year-old male was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Northern Territory Police arrested a 43-year-old male in Katherine, the following day, in relation to the assault.

The male has been refused bail and charged with:

  • Unlawful cause serious harm
  • Aggravated assault

Senior Sergeant Karl Day said "The act of a coward's punch can be life changing for the victim and victim's family,

"Northern Territory Police will not stand for any sort of violence, person's committing such acts will be dealt with through the courts."

Investigations are continuing into the incident.
