Police make arrest - Domestic violence - Karama

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in relation to a domestic violence incident on the weekend.

During the early hours of Saturday 15 October, the victim was holding her two-year-old child when her partner allegedly assaulted her, causing her to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. The man continued to assault the woman before a witness intervened.

The woman regained consciousness, taking the child inside a residence and contacting emergency services.

Police and St John Ambulance attended the residence, both mother and child were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical assessment. They were later released with none life threatening injuries.

The man was arrested and has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault x 2
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Drive unregistered
  • Drive uninsured vehicle
  • Drive under the influence of alcohol

Sergeant Caragh Hen said "This is despicable behaviour that the victim and her child have had to endure. Police have a zero tolerance approach and continue to investigate and prosecute members of the community who act in this way."
